Define irony...Fitz talking about what a priviledge it is to hear fans chant his name while he won't sign autographs because he charges $150 a pop to get a full name autograph.

At Fan Fest this year I spent time just standing and taking in the atmosphere. Here's what I heard and it was constant: "Where's Fitz? Which one's Larry? I want Larry's autograph!! Why can't I get in Larry's line? Hey, Larry! HEY FITZ!! Larry's hair is really long! Which one is Fitzgerald? He's so cute! The man's a stud! Larry! Over here, Larry. Are you sure that's Larry? Why didn't you get Larry's autograph? I thought he'd be taller/shorter/bigger. Larry! Over here! FITZ!!"

I realised that he's someone everyone wants a piece of. And it's probably 24/7.

Meanwhile, after the autograph session, I was standing along the fence line next to some little kid who was just standing there in awe as all the players walked past. Fitz walked by, took off his hat, walked over to this kid who hadn't said a word, and gave it to him. (Thereby making the kid a hero to everybody he knows.) I was tremendously impressed.

He is more than OK in my book. I love that he is on OUR team!

(I do wish I'd gotten a photo of Fitz with this kid. But it was such a surprise I didn't get the shot. Plus, the closer Larry got to us all I was thinking was, "This man is HUGE!!")

Nice post, Dems!

To me celebrity is ugly - from both sides of the fence. What a pain in the ass it would be to be hounded all of the time!

I am certain that Fitzgerald appears aloof too many, but I think that he really doesn't enjoy the ugly side of being a celebrity and understands that it truly means nothing in the long run.

"This game ends for everybody — people are not going to be kissing your ass like they used to. You're going to have to stand in line at Burger King just like everyone else.

And his priorities are straight:
"I remember being asked in class, 'Who is your role model? Kids would say this athlete or that athlete. I would say, 'My father.' My father led by example. He was respectful towards my mother and he had integrity. I didn't have to look very far to see what it was to be a man."

The guy went on the USO tour, spends money and time on other peoples charities and runs a camp for underprivileged kids. This on top of being the greatest football player to play for the Arizona Cardinals.

Hats off to the guy

I heard he is a ass. But not to sure

I wouldn't say he is an ass, but after watching him at camp, humble isn't a word I would use either.

Last year my father, my little brother and sister and I went to the Cards preseason opener in Pittsburgh. In pregame warmups, Fitz was catching fade routes in the end zone. My little brother was in a sea of bigger kids and men cheering for him. Fitz spotted him, caught another pass, then ran over, signaled for people to get out of my brother's way and then threw him the ball. No other players were giving things away or paying any attention to the fans whatsoever (LSH looked over when I was calling him, but as soon as he saw that he didn't know me he turned around) but Larry took time away from what he was doing and did something solely to benefit a 7 year old that he didn't know form Adam. My brother (and family as a whole) will NEVER forget that, and he has the ball mounted in his room now. Fitz is far from an ass IMO.

I'm not really sure what to think of charging of autographs. I think it's a bit cynical to ask an 8 year old for $150 to scribble on a piece of paper but at the same time there are people profiting off everything he signs, and they are not above having young children doing their dirty work.

Edit- After further consideration I think I'm leaning towards his autograph policy(or can at least justify it). If someone is getting his signature for sentimental reasons I don't see what difference it would make if it's his full name or not. Obviously his full name sig is intended for re-sale.
