According to RFA rules Lutui has until Thursday to find another deal somewhere else, of which we would then have 1 week to decide to match it or not. If Lutui doesnt find a deal by Thursday then his rights are ares no matter what and he cannot go and find another deal somewhere else, it would either be sign the deal or dont play.

So there could be 1 of 3 things going on. 1 - He is working on an extension with the Cards as we speak and doesnt want to sign the 1 year deal come in and workout and get injured. 2 - He is working on a deal with another team. 3 - He just wants an extra week off. Half the leagues RFA's still havent signed yet and most dont until the Thursday deadline. This is a none story concerning Lutui.

Good stuff...

BIM: ours (ares is not a word found in any Dictionary... ;)

Brown is an immediate upgrade at safety, and would be our #3. He is a solid playmaker, who just injures himself from playing like a madman.

I don't know how much Kendall has left, but it can't hurt to bring him in. I wouldn't be surprised to see Wells cut in training camp if we signed Simmons, especially if we draft a lineman. Levi Brown, Duece Lutui, Lyle Sendlein, Rex Hadnot, Brandon Keith, Jeremy Bridges, Herman Johnson are all more secure in their roster spots than Reggie Wells, and I don't see us keeping more than 9 offensive linemen, specifically more than 5 guards.

Lots of truth to that. Aside from last year, I watched him for his entire career.....too bad he is hurt as much as he has been....that is pretty much the only reason he was cut by the Bears. He is (has been) one of the best ball hawks in the game, and in fact one several games with last minute or overtime interceptions that put the Bears in a position to win. He is a real leader and would be a major plus..sure hope he is signed

If they were going to replace anyone on the line they have made it seem like it would be Wells. Deuce played very well last season.

My thoughts exactly, isn't Wells a FA after this year? He and Simmons are around the same age but Simmons is a much better player.

I don't think I can say that. Simmons has been pretty horrible the last 2 or 3 years. Its why he has been on possibly 3 teams in 3 years.

This guy In my mind is being looked at as depth and nothing more. Possible so they can keep Hadnot available to backup the Center spot and keep Herman to concentrate on OT.

But did injuries play a part in his poor play? Remember we played PIT 2 years ago in the SB and I thought he played very well that season.

One thing to keep in mind though is money. If the Cardinals sign Simmons his contract should be about half of what Wells' contact is. I know that there isn't a salary cap per se, but there is a budget and Wells might become a budget cut.

I thought about Hadnot being a the backup at center, but if he challenges for the starting LG spot, then we will probably carry another center.

Wells makes less then Hadnot. 2.3 mill does not warrant a budget cut.

Plus I dont think Simmons has played LG ever in the Pro's. I know the last 3 years he has played nothing but RG.

Simmons didn't play in the super bowl against us. Injured that year.

Signed a long term deal and Pitt let him go after only two years of it. Signed a three year deal with NE and they let him go only months into it. Signed a one year deal with Buffalo mid season had to put him on injured reserve after only a few weeks and they want nothing else to do with him.

He is injury prone and when he does play he has looked terrible ever since signing his extension with Pitt in 2007.

I'm wondering if they just would like to have these two guys available after TC like an insurance policy that they can go to for emergency depth in the event that-----A. we don't do as well in the draft as we expected in finding depth at ILB, (and they are at some point forced to use AW in the box more than the wanted to,-----and B. for some reason, they don't or can't sign Lutui,-----(say he goes to play for Pete Carrol in Seattle).

KFFL reported that neither would likely be signed before the draft.

I like it. If we can draft youngsters to develop, we do. If not, we've seen a few vets we can sign after the draft. Dig it.

Thanks for the update, Stout. Great job.

I'm intrigued by Mike Brown, especially since he can play SS, whereas our other backup safeties are FS types.
