He will probably get at least a 3 game suspension.

Maybe i actually think it would be hard for the NFL to justify giving Porter a suspension for a first offence when the likes of Jared Allen didnt get suspended until after a second conviction. In line with that thinking i dont think he'll get suspended.

if he is indeed charged with assault, its a given

IMO... any mock predicated on Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama, reaching #26 is simply delusional.

I really don't think that Mitch is "predicating" this post on McClain being there. He is simply laying out a long list of players that would be highly rated AND fit needs. Pierre-Paul is pretty unlikely to be there as well, but you never know what might happen.

I was hoping we'd go CB in the first, with Wilson falling to us, much like Beanie, last year. Now it's an OLB (Kindle, Hughes) in the first and an ILB (Chaney, Lee, Washington) in the second. IMO, CB and NT will have to wait. While I'm certainly not glad it happened, Joey's arrest might turn out to be a blessing in disguise, if the OLB selected turns out to be a good pass rusher.

I don't think Porter's arrest will have any impact on the Cards draft plans. At most, unless there's somethng we don't know about, he'll get 1 game.

Cbus, what you're saying would be correct if this will be a one time slip by Joey. I'm thinking that he's a ticking timebomb. What is the team thinking?

He is not alone in that thinking.

Sando wrote that this may force Porter to really fly straight so as to avoid any future problems with Goodell.

The Cardinals signed Porter after determining he would embrace a team-first concept, fitting his super-sized personality into the locker room. This incident should only help in that regard; Porter should arrive contrite and knowing there's little room for error.

Yep, that's why I said lousy to impossible.

I realize almost everyone states that chrones won't hurt his stock because he has never missed a game. The thing is that his workout was cut short due chrones. Am I over reacting about that?

So in a very deep draft is it possible that teams will go with a DE instead of a ILB? Can all the teams that have a need for an ILB justify another player because of his chrones until he gets to us?

It is not a deep draft for ILB's according to most experts.
What teams need a MLB or a 3-4 ILB?

When did Ray Lewis get drafted?

26th pick in the first round. A good omen for us? :koolaid:

I've given up on trying to predict what the cardinals will do at #26, too many variables. I'm just making sure I know the 1st-3rd round prospects pretty well so I'm not lost in the first few rounds.

So they get Boldin and draft one spot ahead of us. Hmmmm. Conspiracy? :D
That sucks too because i think they are about the best drafting team around. I don't know how the numbers bear out but it always seems like them and SD have pretty good drafts.

True dat, but we are getting better and better and hopefully in a couple of years time we can still say that.

What makes it worse is that they very similar needs to us. The need help on the D-line (primarily on the ends, but I have read that they are interested and have worked out T. Cody), CB, CB, S, TE, LB, and OT and C depth. :bang:

I would have made us swap picks as part of the Boldin trade.

It's always enjoyable to throw a bunch of scenarios up against the wall. Some random observations:

1. This draft is unique in that (a) it has very few truly elite superstars but (b) may be as deep as 5 rounds in solid talent that can strengthen NFL rosters.

2. In most drafts, there will be a handful of players that some teams will want to trade up for - either because the players are uniquely talented or because there's position-shortage in the draft.

3. Other than the guys at the very top of most draft boards (i.e. Suh, McCoy, 4 - 6 offensive tackles and the 2 QB's and possibily Iupati and Pouncey) I'm not so sure there are many prospects a team will try to trade up for.

4. In fact, I think the trend will be for teams (who don't want to pay outrageously high salaries for 1st round talent) will try to trade down for multiple picks in rounds 2 - 5 (who'll have the talent but cost less).

5. Thing of it is - to pull off a deal, "it takes two to tango." Therefore, if the Cards want to trade down, they're going to find it difficult to find a trading partner.

6. I look for the Cardinals to continue the pattern put into place since Dennis G - namely to sit at the bottom of the cliff (Like the Catcher in the Rye's Holden Caufield) and catch the best dude to fall over that cliff at #26. There are always at least 2 or 3 high-value dudes who'll fall to us (because the teams above us have different drafting MO's and priorities). That's how we got Beanie. It's how we got DRC the previous year.

7. I have no idea who those 2, 3 or more high-value dudes will be.

8. This is not a banner year for ILB's - either they're too small (Witherspoon, Washington etc.), too slow (Spikes) or have medical issues (McClain). I don't think we can or will "force the issue" by overdrafting an ILB.

9. Regarding McClain/Crohn Disease - the higher the team considering him is drafting, the greater the risk he represents. But as you move down the draft from the Top 12 to the Top 25 into the late first/early second round, the risk becomes more and more worth taking. (Where that break-even point is, I have no clue).

10. Incidently, a similar (though more minor situation exists with Spikes. While it's true he hasn't run faster than 5.03, he is considered an outstanding "pure football player" and is playing a position where speed is less a priority than toughness, football instincts and tackling skills. I'm guessing that somewhere in the mid-rounds, Spikes will look better than most of the remaining ILB's out there (most of whom are running somewhere in the 4.8's anyway).

Bottom line - (a) trading down is unlikely. (b) Cards will take best value on their board (going for need where a few available players are closely rated) and (c) what we will probably get will be an upgraded overall roster - which logically should mean - that by default - we'll fill a few need-positions.
