my friend texted me saying porter suspended 4 games. i say no way punishment was put down that quick. anyone else heard this.

not trying to start a rumor, trying to squash one i promise.

That is complete bunk. The NFL and Goodell has never handed down a suspension that quick. EVER.

I can tell you that your friend is drunk texting you :D

No way would they throw down that punishment that quickly without sifting through all of the facts

Not nearly as big a deal as some are making it out to be, way too early to comment IMO.

He is a public figure and put himself at risk not only by getting involved in a situation when he shouldn't have, but assaulted an officer and "allegedly" was driving under the influence. I love the attitude that it's "not nearly as big a deal as some are making it out to be", and the BS that this was somehow racially motivated. Talk about a total lack of responsibility, although I'm not at all shocked. Some fans are dumb enough to excuse any behavior.

Stretch? Perhaps you're unaware of what a public figure is. Dictionary reference below:

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/public+figure

I really can't envision any scenario in which calling Joey Porter a public figure would be a stretch. Unfortunately, the thing many of these fools don't realize is that with the millions of dollars and the adoration comes extraordinary responsibility and scrutiny. Goodell has made it crystal clear that playing in the NFL is a privilege, not a right. I wouldn't be shocked to see him suspended.

even with that definition its a stretch. ps you need to chill.

That's your opinion...I can't imagine how under any circumstances you can say a big name sports star isn't a public figure. You think this is all over ESPN and TMZ because he isn't a public figure?

PS Chill about what? I'd keep my opinion on these matters to myself if I were you.

I almost always side with the police but my question is, and this will probably be Porter's defense, why is the cop reaching into the car and grabbing his arm? Porter is going to say he thought the cop was going after him. Probably not the case but his likely response. Still, is it a normal action for the police to reach into a driver's car and grab the drivers arm? Especially, going by the article, before he was under arrest.

Oh and if you refuse FST's that in and of itself is enough for me to arrest you on suspicion of DUI. In fact it's the icing on the cake. What many of you are forgetting is not just the FSTs but the HGN test as well. It don't *** much more accurate than that.[/quote

Shane, there's always a defense lawyer out to find loopholes and exceptions to everything.

Fighting a cop, resisting arrest?

8 games?

I doubt it. Probably the usual 4. I doubt all three of the charges stick or he pleads to a significantly lesser punishment

Ahh the perks of being a celebrity

The cop was reaching in to unlock the door before JP rolled the window up and JP supposedly slapped the cops hand away.

I will wait till after the court gets it all settled before I make judgment. Being a cop is a very stressful job. Some have problems with ego, some are afraid of black men and I bet even more so of large black men. Those issues can have an effect on how one handles a situation. There are two sides to every story. I can wait for a jury to issue a determination.

I wonder if its a possibilty he could get released if being found guilty of assault? Thats the charge I would be worried about.

Impeding a police officer in the performance of his duties, seems just as likely. And, unless there are priors, it seems unlikely he'd be held over even on the assault as described in the original piece.

This will be pleaded out... IMO
