If larry brown wasn't such a dirtbag of a human being he would be a good choice.

If Dallas gets bounced in the next couple days, they might fire avery. Some people may disagree and point out the mistakes he's made in the playoffs the last few years... fair enough

But I also know he temporarily changed the culture in Dallas two years ago, before the playoff choke, to be more accountable on defense and rebounding.

Bottom line, we need a control freak. Jeff Van Gundy, I don't know I'm just throwing out names.

Coaches are kinda like Presidents...they get too much credit when things go right and too much blame when things go wrong.

If you think a cocah is just going to turn this around you're sadly mistaken. The coach would have to be exceptional.

I've been on the JVG bandwagon for a while, I think he could bring some defensive accountability to a team that sorely needs it.

There's something about JVG I just don't like. He has experience, but I don't think he could take us to the finals. I really would like to get Rick Aldeman, but Rockets will have him for the next 5 years.

Seriously though, would anyone even want to touch this team right now?

Lets count the cons:
Owner who won't spend into the LT
Max out capped for years to come
Virtually no draft picks
3 major pieces of the team in their mid 30's
No bench
No defensive fundamentals
Team will probably be blown up after next season

Who would want that mess?

Good points. We're screwed for years to come. Attendance will fall and revenue with it. We remember what this will be like. Go DBacks, Cards!

Obviously we're not a championship team, but we aren't in complete rebuilding mode yet... but we'll be there soon.

We'll need a coach to change the mindset of the team going into rebuilding.
We have the number 15 pick, i'd actually try and trade barbosa for another mid round pick (or maybe package with 15 to move up 6/7 spots). I think that is a trade that could reasonably get done.

With draft picks a new coach will actually have a fresh slate to mold a players mindset, all the players on this team are probably a lost cause as far as beating out the Mike D defense dont matter mindset (i mean d.j. strawberry's reward for try to make his place in the league by playing d is to not getting any chances...)

The bolded is not a necessity for success.

Larry Krystowiak or Terry Stotts would be good choices to accomplish my tanking proposal. How about Frank Johnson?

Interesting.
Look, the SUNS are gonna have to decide(if indeed DA gets canned) if they're gonna bring in a stop-gap HC and ride this aging team out for 2 years until they can begin making some serious player personel moves along with bringing in a proven HC.
Or.......they make a hard push for a LB,JVG at HC now...and trade Nash,Barbosa in hopes of getting a few defensive pieces in here to pair with Amare/Diaw/D.J./Giricek
I vote for the former.
Target 2010 as the year to make another serious run.
Get these monster contracts and aging legs off the books.
Watch the Diamondbacks and (cough)Cardinals have some success.

Actually, the D-Backs are a good model for the Suns to follow. It wasn't too long ago that they were where the Suns are at now. Namely, hamstrung with overpriced talent that was on the decline, and apparently backed into a corner for the near term. Now just a few years later, they have an impressive young team with as bright a future as anyone in MLB.

Of course, they also wisely invested in drafting and developing young talent, even while they had the overpriced vet team. And they also had a championship to show for their overspending on veterans. Two key differences, I guess...

I see D'Antoni sticking around one more year. I hope I am wrong.

i don't think I'd even bother watching or rooting for this team anymore if DA isn't brought back. That just shows me that we're a team that accepts failure. I've never seen the Suns as being that type of team and can't root for it after having been raised watching a different mentality.
