Zohran Mamdani’s Game 5 message to Knicks fans turned into the roadmap for New York’s championship celebrations after the franchise finally ended its 53-year title wait.
The Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5, closing the NBA Finals 4-1 and winning their first championship since 1973.
Before the game, the mayor had already pointed supporters toward the official watch-party hubs across Manhattan.

Zohran Mamdani names Knicks watch party celebration locations
As Mayor Zohran Mamdani told fans before tip-off: “Tonight, Knicks fans across our city will come together at Plaza 33 outside MSG, Radio City Music Hall, and Wollman Rink to watch Game 5 of the NBA Finals. My administration is proud to work with the Knicks to support these watch parties.”
He also added a safety message for what always had the potential to become a historic night: “As we celebrate, be responsible, look out for one another, stay safe, be smart, and make this a night that reflects the very best of our city.”
The locations mattered because Game 5 was being played in San Antonio, not New York. Plaza 33 outside Madison Square Garden gave fans a direct connection to the franchise’s home, while Radio City Music Hall and Wollman Rink offered additional gathering points for a city ready to erupt.
Once the Knicks finished the job, those watch parties became celebration sites.
Knicks title win sends New York into celebration mode
The game itself gave fans a stressful but unforgettable finish.
San Antonio led by 16 in the first half and still held a 42-37 halftime lead, but Jalen Brunson turned the night into his masterpiece.
Brunson scored 45 points, including huge fourth-quarter baskets, as New York fought back for a 94-90 win at Frost Bank Center.
The celebrity reaction matched the city’s emotion. Timothée Chalamet celebrated wildly after the title, while Spike Lee, Ben Stiller, and Tracy Morgan were among the famous Knicks supporters tied to the Finals run.
Mamdani’s message was simple, but it fit the night. New York had waited more than half a century for this party, and the city finally knew where to gather.
