Maddisen McClintock helped the Zeeland bowling team win the state championship as a sophomore, then she continued to build her game.

Meanwhile, Madden Nowak is a sophomore following the same rising path.

McClintock was selected as the Holland Sentinel Girls Bowler of the Year, while Nowak is the Boys Bowler of the Year.

"Maddisen is a four-year varsity bowler who has taken the helm of leadership for our ladies bowling team," Zeeland coach Anthony DiLaura said. "Always bowling anchor for Zeeland, Maddisen has faced the best bowlers of opposing teams. She has consistently led these girls with encouragement and positivity. As a result of her leading the girls team placed third at regionals this year just two places behind the eventual state champs."

McClintock averaged a 149. She finished 14th place at regionals.

"What went well this season was our ability to maintain a positive attitude despite changes in team dynamics," McClintock said. "We stayed supportive of one another and kept the environment upbeat, which made a big difference. By laughing together and genuinely enjoying the experience, we not only made bowling more fun but also significantly reduced the stress that can come with competition. Overall, our strong team spirit helped make the season a great success for the team."

Nowak averaged 167 and finished 34th at regionals.

"Madden is a sophomore this year and starting to move into that role as a key bowler and real leader of the varsity team," DiLaura said. "Madden throws a high rev, two-handed shot that hits the pocket with a ton of force. He is quiet, even keeled, and always striving to do his best. With this sort of work ethic and drive Madden is a joy to coach and watch his improvement year over year."

Nowak had a high game of 289 this season.

"I think overall, this was one of the most fun seasons I've ever had with any team. Our chemistry is great and it was a blast. Bowling has taught me a lot about patience and mental game," he said. "I learned it's not about how you start, but it's how you finish that matters.

"We faced teams like Grandville who was runner-up in state this year. Going against those kinds of teams help me build up to be a better player both mentally and physically for the future."
