NEW YORK - Being "aggressive and smart'' on the bases has become an early-season Yankees' point of emphasis.

During Friday's home-opening 8-2 win against Miami, the Yankees went 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts and noticeably pushed to take an extra base at times.

“We want to be a little bit risk averse too, because of who we are offensively,’’ manager Aaron Boone said, referencing the Yankees’ signature power.

“That being said, absolutely, we’ve got to be aggressive in certain spots,’’ said Boone. “There’s times when, even when it’s 50-50, you want to push it and get to a base.’’

Earlier on Saturday, both starters Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon threw bullpen sessions at Yankee Stadium.

Cole's ETA from reconstructive surgery rehab remains roughly late May. Rodon (elbow procedure) has lately been nursing a tight right hamstring, but it's uncertain whether his anticipated late-April return might be delayed at all.
