The New York Yankees need to find a way to upgrade their catching depth, and ideally, that would come in the form of a blockbuster trade for a star at the 2026 MLB trade deadline.
There are a few options the Yankees could end up pursuing, with Ryan Jeffers of the Minnesota Twins and Shea Langeliers of the Athletics as two great options. But their ideal target is most likely Hunter Goodman of the Colorado Rockies.
Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer proposed a trade idea that would land the Yankees their "perfect" trade deadline target at the catcher position. But it would cost them three valuable young future stars, including Jasson Dominguez and two other top prospects.

"Trade Proposal: New York Yankees get C Hunter Goodman; Colorado Rockies get OF Jasson Dominguez, OF Spencer Jones, RHP Carlos Lagrange (MLB No. 73)," Rymer proposed.
This idea from Rymer is a bold one, as it'd give up Lagrange, Jones, and Dominguez for just one player at the 2026 MLB trade deadline.
But, if there were a player this summer other than Mason Miller worth spending such a huge amount of capital on, it would be Goodman.
The 26-year-old is under club control through the 2029 season, meaning if the Yankees added him in a trade, they'd have Goodman for the next 3.5 seasons.
His contract is affordable right now as he's yet to begin arbitration, and his offensive upside is so high that the Yankees would improve dramatically over Austin Wells if they could add Goodman.

This season in 93 games and across 359 at-bats, Goodman has 93 hits, 64 runs scored, 16 doubles, 31 home runs, 58 RBIs, a .259 batting average, and an .894 OPS.
His .563 slugging percentage leads all National League hitters, and adding him to this Yankees lineup would help get by until Aaron Judge returns, and when their MVP is back in the lineup, this offense might be the best in baseball.
Spending a fortune on these three young future stars would be worth it to land someone as good as Goodman.
Sure, there is some risk, but the Yankees, in the wide-open American League, should go for it this year, and Goodman is probably, besides Mason Miller, the best trade target possible for the team this summer.
