Yankees rumor reveals 4 prospects they wouldn't and 2 they would trade for Tarik Skubal originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Yankees are, unsurprisingly, one of the many teams mentioned as a potential trade suitor for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal.
Anytime that someone of note is made available for trade, the Yankees are routinely linked as a suitor. This time, even with a stacked rotation, Skubal is a possible trade target for the Yankees. But the question becomes, what would they give up for Skubal?
According to a rumor from Jim Bowden of The Athletic, four prospects are not likely to be in a Skubal trade, but two could be the headliners of a deal for the Tigers' Cy Young winner.

"The Yankees are not going to trade top pitching prospects Carlos Lagrange or Elmer Rodriguez, nor are they going to talk about infielder George Lombard Jr. or Dax Kilby for a rental," Bowden writes.
Lombard, Kilby, Lagrange and Rodriguez are not players the Yankees will want to trade in any trade, unless it's for a true difference maker.
Skubal is just that, but with a good rotation already and Skubal's status as a rental, Bowden believes the Yankees won't be trading those four players for just half a season of Skubal, no matter how good he is.
So, who would the Yankees actually consider trading for a few months of Skubal this season?
"However, they might consider dealing right-hander Ben Jess and outfielder Spencer Jones to land Skubal, especially if they believe they can sign Skubal long-term," Bowden writes.

Jones and Hess are the two prospects Bowden projects as potential prospects the Yankees would be willing to trade in a deal for Skubal.
If the Tigers would accept such a package, it should be a no-brainer for the Yankees, as getting someone as good as Skubal while keeping all of Lagrange, Rodriguez, Kilby and Lomabrd would be a massive win.
It's not looking likely that the Yankees would win the bidding war for Skubal, with this package not being nearly as good as what some other teams, like the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs, could offer.
