The New York Yankees have been mentioned in a lot of rumors leading up to tomorrow's MLB trade deadline. Many different players have been talked about as potential targets.
On Sunday afternoon, momentum has shifted towards one potential target in particular.
According to a report from Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees are working to acquire Washington Nationals first baseman Luis Garcia Jr. A second report from MLB Network insider Jon Morosi confirmed that report and stated that there was "good momentum" towards a Garcia trade.
Sherman has also shared that AA pitcher Jack Cebert has been discussed as part of the potential return.
Garcia would be an interesting addition for New York. However, the fit has been called into question by many fans on social media.
So far this season, the 26-year-old Garcia has played in 104 games for the Nationals. He has hit 23 home runs to go along with 76 RBI, while also batting .283/.313/.560
Any trade for Garcia would likely drastically change Paul Goldschmidt's role with the Yankees. He would likely only play against left-handed pitchers moving forward.
