At this point, Aaron Judge is no longer competing with the stars of his generation. He is competing with baseball history. The New York Yankees captain has a chance in 2026 to accomplish something no hitter in Major League Baseball history has ever done — not Babe Ruth, not Barry Bonds, not Sammy Sosa, and not Mark McGwire. Judge is chasing a fifth career 50-home run season. Nobody has ever done it.

Right now, Judge is tied atop MLB history with four separate 50-home run seasons. The only other players to accomplish that feat are:
That is it. No one else has done it four times. Not even some of the greatest hitters the game has ever seen. Alex Rodriguez reached the mark three times. Nobody beyond that group has done it more than twice.
What makes this potential record even more incredible is looking at the names below Judge. Barry Bonds — owner of the single-season record with 73 home runs — only had one 50-home run season in his career.
Hank Aaron, one of baseball’s greatest sluggers and former home run king, never reached 50 home runs in a season. Think about that for a second. Some of the greatest power hitters to ever step into a batter’s box never accomplished what Judge is on pace to do.

The modern game is not exactly friendly to hitters. Pitchers throw harder than ever. Bullpens feature waves of relievers touching triple digits. Breaking pitches move in ways previous generations never dealt with. And yet Judge continues putting up numbers that feel almost impossible. Because this is what he does. He destroys baseballs.
Judge already owns one of the greatest home run seasons ever and has built a résumé that puts him among the greatest Yankees of all time. But setting an all-time MLB record like this adds another level entirely. This would not simply be another impressive season. This would be baseball history.
Everyone already understands Aaron Judge is special. But what he is chasing in 2026 goes beyond being special. If Judge reaches 50 home runs again, he will stand alone atop one of baseball’s rarest power achievements. And once again, the Yankees captain would be doing something nobody else ever has.
