Over his last three starts, Gerrit Cole has been rolling along.

He's 3-0 with a 1.45 ERA, with 21 strikeouts (vs. five walks) in 18.2 innings, and has not yielded a home run in that span.

On Friday night, Cole (6-5, 3.35) kicks off the Yankees six-game road trip at Toronto, opposing Blue Jays right-hander Shane Bieber (3-2, 5.48) at Rogers Centre.

Back in June at Toronto, the Yankees won two of three games from the Jays, who are coming off taking three of four games from the second-place Red Sox.

In a virtual last-place tie with Baltimore in the AL East, Toronto still finds itself two games out of the last wild card spot in this mediocre American League.

Bieber's start to the 2026 season was delayed until late June by elbow issues, and he's had trouble finding consistency. In his last start, Bieber gave up five runs on six hits (including two home runs) and three walks in 5.2 innings at Philadelphia.

Meanwhile, the wild-card leading Yanks - 6.5 games behind the division-leading Rays - have won their last two series (vs. Atlanta & Seattle) but are coming off Thursday's 1-0 loss to the Mariners at the Stadium.

Here is the Yankees' Friday night lineup at Toronto:

  1. Trent Grisham, CF
  2. Ben Rice, DH
  3. Spencer Jones, RF
  4. Luis Garcia Jr., 1B
  5. Jazz Chisholm Jr., 2B
  6. Heliot Ramos, LF
  7. Ryan McMahon, 3B
  8. Austin Wells, C
  9. George Lombard Jr., SS
