The New York Yankees are off to a scorching hot start to the 2026 season.

As winners of 15 of their last 17 games and in first place in the AL East, the Yankees already look like a club that will look to make additions at the trade deadline.

But New York and general manager Brian Cashman are not going to make deals just for the sake of making some.

Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer recently proposed that the Yankees are one of the best landing spots for Mike Trout, noting that Trent Grisham's slow start is expected regression from last season's career year.

"The Yankees otherwise have the best pitching staff of 2026 so far, which is merely the latest in a long line of solid contention backbones," Rymer wrote. "Trout is surely no more blind than anyone else to the fact that this franchise last had a losing season in 1992."

Sure, the Yankees might love to add Trout, but what will it cost them? The center fielder/designated hitter also has a no-trade clause in his contract with the Los Angeles Angels.

"It's impact prospects the Yankees lack, but the Angels could angle for Carlos Lagrange or fellow flamethrower Elmer Rodriguez," Rymer added. "Spencer Jones could go as well, because why not?"

Lagrange's talent is undeniable, and although the Yankees have a strong rotation, the prospect's future could be in the bullpen. They are also very fond of Rodriguez, and truly, Jones is the most logical name mentioned, despite there being a potential center field opening when Grisham reaches free agency at the end of the season.

But even given Trout's resurgence and the excitement of Aaron Judge and him being teammates, the potential for injuries and decline with age makes this too risky a deal for Cashman to accept.
