There are many conflicting reports about what Mike Trout might do around the trade deadline, as he has a full no-trade clause and the Los Angeles Angels have continued to be one of the worst teams in the American League, currently with the worst record at 24-39.
It's almost impossible to say that the Angels should keep trying with this roster, so they have to ensure that they get the right return for him.
If one team is interested in Trout, or at least expected to be, it's the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies have played much better recently, and they're 33-29 with a slew of talent, making them a realistic suitor for his services.
According to the latest scoop, there's a sense among some executives and scouts in Major League Baseball that he can at least be traded now.
“It’s certainly time for the Los Angeles Angels and Mike Trout to part ways. Despite having a full no-trade clause in his 12-year, $426.5 million contract, executives and scouts believe Trout will waive it to go to a contender this season. The 23-39 Angels are once again in the basement of the AL West and the 34-year-old Trout doesn’t have many playing years left. Trout has four more seasons remaining on his deal and around $150 million total,” Pat Ragazzo reported.
The question that some were pondering for Trout was whether he'd be willing to waive that no-trade clause. The Angels also have to be willing to move on from him, though it feels likely that if he goes up to Los Angeles' front office and asks to be traded, it would grant his wishes.
The Phillies will definitely have to hope for that.
