The Yankees are acquiring Luis Garcia Jr. in a deal with the Nationals, according to SNY MLB Insider Chelsea Janes.
New York is sending right-handed pitchers Ben Grable, Yovanny Cruz, Jack Cebert and Jake Bird to Washington, according to The Athletic's Spencer Nusbaum and MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.
Garcia is an interesting fit in the Bronx, having spent the majority of this season playing first base, but he'd certainly provide a much-needed boost to their shorthanded offense. He has also played second base as a pro.
New York, of course, is down All-Star's Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger to injury.
Garcia shook off a bit of a slow start to the season to become one of the more productive bats in the NL, racking up an league-leading .560 slugging percentage and an impressive .880 OPS.
He's also already topped his career-high's in triples (five), homers (23), and RBI (76).
The 26-year-old will look to continue adding onto those numbers now playing in a home ballpark in the Bronx that should be a perfect fit for his power-hitting left-handed swing.
Garcia figures to take over the bulk of the 1B at-bats against righties with Ben Rice as the DH.
He comes with one more year of club control following this season.
