Right now, Jazz Chisholm Jr. is in a funk at the plate.

The New York Yankees' second baseman hasn't found his way to power very often so far, and it doesn't seem to be a fluke.

The underlying numbers for Chisholm certainly match the fact that he isn't leaving the ballpark with the long ball very much.

"Chisholm has gone deep just three times in 31 games -- including a 23-game drought to open the campaign -- recording the fifth-largest drop in barrel rate (-8.4 points) and the third-largest drop in expected SLG (-.151) of any qualifying hitter," MLB.com's Thomas Harrigan wrote in a new article this weekend.

This comes, of course, after Chisholm set some massive goals for himself this season.

"A free agent at the end of 2026, Chisholm said this past offseason that he was aiming for a 50-50 season, something only Shohei Ohtani has done," Harrigan wrote. "But while he’s on pace to come close in the steals department, it looks like he might not even reach 15 homers."

That fact mentioned there by Harrigan is key, too. This is a contract year for Chisholm.

If the Yankees were struggling by the trade deadline, Chisholm could be a trade candidate. And even if he stays in the Bronx all season, his current struggles could be hurting his overall contract value, as well as the likelihood of whether the Yankees even want to bring him back.

There's a whole lot of baseball still to be played, so Chisholm could certainly turn things around and look like the talented player that the Yankees believe him to be.

Right now, he's immensely cold, though, and there's no telling whether that will actually turn itself around.
