Yankees' Amed Rosario makes Aaron Boone look absolutely brilliant originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Yankees and their manager Aaron Boone made a bold call on Tuesday night.
At least temporarily, they benched Ryan McMahon. In his place, they started Amed Rosario at third base.
Rosario made it look brilliant.
The righty hitter slugged two home runs in a 5-3 Yankees win over the Athletics at the Stadium.
It's not an assignment Rosario was expected to get much, if at all. He was on the roster to start with a platoon advantage against left-handed pitching.
On Tuesday, though, the A's were starting a righty, Aaron Civale. That'd normally be McMahon's gig.
But McMahon has started this season 2-for-23 with 11 strikeouts. The Yankees won't give up on him altogether, but they decided it was a good time to plug Rosario in for a change.
They'll likely have to give Rosario the next start, too.

It was the third multi-homer game of Rosario's career, and his first since 2021.
He was once a top prospect for the Mets, and he was a prominent player for a while in Cleveland, but by now, he's supposed to just be a role player.
Well, his role on Tuesday night was to slug two clutch home runs and make Boone look like he knows what he's doing.
Not a bad night in pinstripes for Rosario.
