Yankees’ Brian Cashman made the deadline excuse all New York fans were expecting originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

What a boring and disappointing trade deadline it was for the New York Yankees, not accomplishing anything that they needed to on either side of the baseball.

For a Yankees team that was expected to be very active throughout the entire deadline, this felt like perhaps the most disappointing deadline we've seen from them in quite some time.

It likely didn't help the Yankees that prices were a bit high and not all players got traded, but there's really no excuse for New York to do what it did. At the end of the day, the Yankees needed to get better on both sides of the baseball, and they didn't do that.

Recently speaking to reporters about it, I think it's only fair to suggest that Brian Cashman's comments are a bit ridiculous. He said that there just weren't enough players out there that they believed could help them upgrade.

"We engaged everybody," Cashman said, per ESPN. "We tried to evaluate all opportunities in the marketplace. And, with that being said, I don't think there were a lot of opportunities that existed that were upgrades for us. We like the players we have and we like the players we have on the come."

I absolutely disagree with comments like this from Cashman, especially when we just saw guys like Adley Rutschman get traded to the Boston Red Sox.

It doesn't feel like he's being honest and, instead, he didn't want to part ways with certain prospects. That's been a problem for the Yankees over the past few years, and something that evidently has to change in the near future.
