Oklahoma guard Xzayvier Brown announced Monday afternoon that he would return to the Sooners for the 2026-27 season.
Brown, who transferred from St. Joseph's after the 2025-26 season, averaged 14.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals in his first season in Norman. His scoring average was second on the team and his steals and assists marks led the Sooners. He announced his return on Instagram.
That means for just the second time in coach Porter Moser's (going on) six seasons, Oklahoma will have its starting point guard back for two straight years.
Brown's return is the biggest coup of the Sooners' offseason so far. Earlier Monday, Moser and Co. picked up the transfer of former Louisville forward Khani Rooths. He is expected to slot into the space vacated by Tae Davis, whose eligibility was exhausted at season's end, albeit with less experience.
Oklahoma struggled out of the Southeastern Conference gate in 2025-26, losing nine of its first 10 conference games, including nine in a row. But the Sooners bounced back enough to put themselves on the NCAA Tournament, ultimately making the finals of the College Basketball Crown tournament in the postseason before falling to West Virginia.
Besides getting Rooths, Oklahoma will return forward Derrion Reid (11.7 points per game) and forward Kuol Atak (7.0 points per game) to provide the Sooners some frontcourt firepower. Next up for new general manager Lucas McKay will be getting some backcourt help for Brown after the graduation of leading scorer Nijel Pack and reserve Jadon Jones.
