As most college basketball fans know, the portal opened shortly after One Shining Moment wrapped on Monday night. Since then, well over 1,000 players have put their names into the portal. This morning, it appears that Xavier has gained commitment from one of those players, and a good one at that.
Mike Nwoko joins the Muskies from LSU, since he apparently didn’t want first-hand knowledge of the Will Wade experience. Who can blame him, really? Nwoko stands at 6’10” and 261 pounds and plays like a good old-fashioned big man, and does most of his damage in the paint. He’s far from a sluggish big man, though, as he is most definitely a lob threat and has good hands in the post.
Xavier watched for a long time and scored, either graduating or looking elsewhere for basketball opportunities. Pitino has almost instantly brought in a guy who averaged 13/6/1 in the SEC this season and will almost certainly be a starting piece for X this year. There is still a long way to go before this roster is complete, but this is about as good a start as anyone could have reasonably asked for.
