LISBURN, Pa. (WETM) – A Pennsylvania-based wrestling group continues to ascend in helping the future of the sport.

Wrestling With The Outdoors (WWTO), a group dedicated to incorporating wrestling along with outdoor life, put on its annual fundraising dinner in Lisburn, Pennsylvania at the end of May. Held at The Grappling Crab Shack in Lisburn, just outside of the Harrisburg region, several special guests attended the event to help the program get better.

Guests included the voice of The Big Ten and NCAA Wrestling, Shane Sparks, three-time NCAA Champion and Olympic silver medalist Barry Davis, Penn State two-time NCAA Champion and current #1 ranked freestyle wrestler in the world Levi Haines and more were on hand. It was a night dedicated to wrestling and building the social relationships in life that matter.

Wrestling With The Outdoors CEO, Rob Rapsey, is a Pennsylvania wrestling hall of famer out of Cedar Cliff High School and the driving force of the program. Rapsey was the head coach at Cedar Cliff for 14 seasons racking up a (258-59) career record before retiring in 2020. Beyond the record, Rapsey’s teams won four District 3 team championships, seven Mid-Penn division titles, 15 District 3 individual champions, 16 state medalists and had four wrestlers make the PIAA state finals.

Rapsey is spearheading a truly special board of directors for WWTO which also includes: the legendary Dan Gable, Davis, events director Sandy Nickal and fellow board member Jason Nickal. The Nickal’s are the parents of Penn State wrestling great and current UFC fighter, Bo Nickal.

Their mission, as stated on the program’s website is: “We help amateur wrestlers cultivate a lifelong connection with the outdoors, develop character-based leadership skills, and serve their communities.”
