The 2026 World Cup has given many fans from around the globe a chance to experience what America is really like.

Mexico and Canada also co-hosted the tournament this summer, but the bulk of the matches have been held in the USA.

Now, after spending the summer travelling across the US, England fan Oliver Henry has been discussing why he thinks a lot of Americans do not leave their country.

Americans don’t need to leave USA to get a different experience

Henry has been documenting his World Cup journey on social media this summer, which has included visiting the West Wing of the White House and meeting Donald Trump.

In his latest post, the England soccer fan travelled to a water park in Texas where he shared his thoughts on ‘why Americans don’t travel apart from inside the US’.

He said: “Americans never leave America. 50% of Americans don’t even have passports, and now I completely understand why.

“I’m back in Texas, and travelling to even a different part of Texas is like travelling to a different part of the world.

“I’m at Schlitterbahn, a water park, and where we are now was all founded by Germans, so everything has a German reference in this whole town just outside of San Antonio, and that’s completely different to where I was in Dallas, and obviously where I’ve been in Atlanta, Boston, Washington.

“Everywhere you go in the US is like a completely different world, and I now understand fully why Americans don’t travel apart from inside the US because you can go anywhere and get a completely different experience depending on which state you’re in.”

With England still competing at this summer’s World Cup, Henry is expected to remain in the US for a little while longer.

The Three Lions are in action against Norway in Miami this coming weekend, a game they are probably favourites to win.

They would then play Switzerland or Argentina in the next round if they are able to see off Erling Haaland and his teammates.

Win that semi, and a final meeting in New Jersey awaits the travelling England faithful.
