It turns out that the most lucrative position at the World Cup isn’t playing on the pitch, it’s sitting in the presidential suite.
Running FIFA looks less like a standard sports job and more like professional chaos management, as Gianni Infantino basically spends his time collecting massive cheques while navigating the drama.
At the tournament, he’s managed to find himself right in the thick of things, from viral accusations of favoring Argentina to a wild, political intervention that saw Folarin Balogun’s red card completely erased after a casual phone call from Donald Trump.
And the FIFA president is about to feel some more heat, as fans have just discovered how much he’s earning per year in his position.
Gianni Infantino’s wage has been shared by FIFA
Gianni Infantino‘s salary per year is around $6 million, which turns out to be the same amount the USMNT are paying Mauricio Pochettino in his role as manager.
The information was detailed by FIFA in its annual financial report, which confirmed that Infantino received a total compensation package of $6 million for 2025.
This figure was reached because his annual bonus increased by 33%, rising by 550,000 Swiss francs to a total of 2.2 million Swiss francs, while his base salary remained unchanged at 2.6 million Swiss francs.

Fans on X are rather shocked at the news, suggesting he’s being overpaid for the job he does.

“Doing what exactly?” questioned one fan, wondering what he actually does all day.

“If coaches are earning €10M annually, this is low for the FIFA president.” stated one fan, who believes it’s actually not enough for his job.
