Rebecca Lowe and Fox Sports World Cup hosts - Fox Sports YouTube

Soccer fans are calling out Fox over its “biased” coverage of games in the FIFA World Cup. And they are pointing fingers especially at the network’s many English broadcasters.

Many viewers were infuriated by what went down after the England men’s soccer team came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat DR Congo 2-1 in Wednesday’s (July 1) World Cup Round of 32 knockout round.

Fox World Cup host Rebecca Lowe, who leads the network’s in-studio coverage alongside Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, was criticized for showing bias towards her home nation. This became a particular point of contention when she asked if “we” (meaning England) relied too much on striker Harry Kane, who scored two goals against Congo.

Even though Lowe quickly corrected herself, fans jumped onto social media to call Fox out for what they deemed to be unfair coverage. “Biased commentators on Fox Sports,” wrote one X user.

“FOX gotta ditch these British play-by-play guys. Holy bias!” said another.

“The fox sports commentary is biased. Can’t even hide their bias,” another added.

One viewer wrote, “These English announcers were not the way to go for this match. They’re too emotionally vested and their bias toward England is creeping in.”

“Fox sports commentators can’t even hide their bias, how do you call that a penalty,” said another, referring to a controversial referee decision when Kane was taken down in the box.

“The bias on @foxsports is glaring,” added another. “The commentators are losing their minds screaming for England penalties, yet when Ghana or other African nations get completely denied obvious penalties, there’s total silence. The double standard & casual racism in this coverage is exhausting.”

However, others praised the Fox World Cup coverage. Some fans pointed out Lowe’s red-and-white striped dress in support of the U.S. men’s team and how she smartly laid out to let viewers hear the stadium singing “Take Me Home, Country Roads” after the U.S. win over Bosnia-Herzegovina.

“Great job by Rebecca Lowe laying out there for Country Roads,” wrote one X commenter.

“The play by play announce teams on FOX for the World Cup have been brilliant. Exciting, well prepared and quick with a turn of phrase. In the studio, Rebecca Lowe is fantastic and Zlatan is not only strong in his analysis but hilarious,” another added.

“Rebecca Lowe an excellent anchor controlling the segments and setting them up, too. Awesome studio team, it’s been fun,” said another.

Another wrote, “Rebecca Lowe is truly incredible at her job shout out.”
