Women's March Madness Final Four AI predictions pick UConn over field

Women's March Madness has had its share of excitement from players having their best games of their collegiate careers to heart-breaking game-winning shots. Now, it's down to the final four teams left.

All the remaining teams are No. 1 seeds made up of South Carolina, UCLA, Texas and UConn. The tournament continues on Friday, April 3 in Phoenix, Arizona.

UCLA and Texas have one game, and South Carolina and UConn face each other in the other contest to determine who will play for the women's basketball national championship.

Ironically, USA TODAY Sports asked Microsoft Copilot's AI chatbot on March 26 to run a simulation of every remaining women's game left in March Madness, at the time beginning with the Sweet 16 and ending with the national championship game winner on April 5.

Just a week ago, Microsoft Copilot's AI chatbot predicted that all No. 1 seeds would advance to the Final Four. Here's how AI predicted the outcome as of March 26.

Final Four prediction as of March 26​

• No. 1 seed Texas beats No. 1 seed UCLA
• No. 1 seed UConn beats No. 1 seed South Carolina

Final Four predictions as of April 2​

In an updated predictions request on April 2, Microsoft Copilot AI chatbot stood pat on its championship predictions. In one scenario, the AI chatbot has Texas falling to UConn in the national championship game. Here's are the final results that Microsoft Copilot AI chatbot predicts will take place.

Semifinal 1: No. 1 UConn vs No. 1 South Carolina

• UConn advances in roughly two‑thirds of runs.
• Sample result: UConn 78, South Carolina 68.

Semifinal 2: No. 1 Texas vs No. 1 UCLA

• Texas advances a bit more often than UCLA, but it’s close to a coin flip.
• Sample result: Texas 74, UCLA 71.

Championship: No. 1 UConn vs No. 1 Texas

• UConn wins the title in a clear majority of runs.
• Sample result: UConn 80, Texas 70.

"In a simulation driven by current odds, UConn wins the championship most often by a wide margin, with Texas and UCLA as the main 'upset' champions and South Carolina as the longest shot of the four—still very live, just less frequent," the AI chatbot said.

After asking for a random prediction of the winner, the AI chatbot concluded that Texas will defeat South Carolina, 68-63, in a nail-biter to claim the national championship title.

The Women's Final Four takes place on April 3 in an ESPN double-header beginning at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. local).
