CANTON ‒ The Women's Football Alliance is moving its headquarters to the Hall of Fame Village — and adding a football team in the city that will play its home games at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
The semi-pro league announced the moves June 30.
The Canton stadium will serve as the home for marquee events such as camps and the WFA National Championship and WFA Flag National Championship. In a social media post, the league called it a "multi-million investment."
This year's championship weekend was already slated for the stadium on July 24-26. The multi-day event will feature the WFA Pro and Division 2 National Championships, the WFA Flag National Championship and the WFA World Bowl.
The headquarters will be located at the village's Constellation Center for Excellence and include a new retail storefront for WFA apparel, merchandise and equipment. It also will include executive suites, a television and podcast studio, conference rooms and a 100-plus seat theater.
"Welcome home," the Hall of Fame Village posted on social media.
The league, which had been run out of Exeter, California, also said it will soon announce a 2027 expansion franchise for Canton that will be owned by the Hall of Fame Village, which surrounds the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The league now has about 40 teams spread over three divisions.
Founded in 2009, the full-contact league is the largest 11-on-11 football organization for women in the world and the longest running active women's football league in the nation.

"The reason I was so motivated to create this for the Women's Football Alliance is because the women who make up our WFA are some of the finest, kindest, most humble, and most amazing women in the world," WFA President Terry Smith said in a prepared statement. "And so, it's an honor for me to be able to help our fantastic women in any way possible."
Smith has been trying to elevate the status of the league to the level of the WNBA and NWSL.
The announcement comes as the Hall of Fame Village continues work on its long-awaited water park and hotel projects.
