After a seventh-place finish at the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic, Northwestern traveled to Sarasota, Florida for the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational looking to respond. While the field was not as deep as some of the events NU typically plays, it still featured quality competition, with nine of the 15 teams ranked inside the top-50 nationally.

The ‘Cats led wire-to-wire and secured the team championship by four shots over Oklahoma. Senior Dianna Lee delivered a standout performance as well, capturing the individual title at 4-under, three strokes clear of the field.

Northwestern opened the tournament with a 6-over round and took a two-shot lead after the first 18 holes. Lee paced the group with an even-par round in difficult conditions marked by strong winds and rain. She carded three birdies between holes two and seven. Megan Meng, Hsin Tai Lin and Ashley Yun carded matching 2-over 74s to keep NU in front.

The teams returned to the course for the second round later that day, facing even harsher weather that included 20 mph winds and steady rain. Scoring reflected the challenge. Northwestern shot 18-over as a team, yet Lee once again led the way with another even-par round that featured four birdies. Meng posted the next-best score for NU at 4-over, underscoring how demanding the conditions had become. Despite the struggles, the ‘Cats maintained a two-shot lead over Oklahoma heading into the final round.

In the closing 18 holes, Northwestern delivered its best performance of the tournament. The ‘Cats shot 4-under as a team in improved, but still demanding conditions. Lee sealed her victory with a bogey-free 4-under round that included four birdies. Yun also finished under-par, posting a 2-under round with four birdies and two bogeys. With that final surge, Northwestern secured the team title by four shots and completed a sweep of both the team and individual championships.

The Palm Aire Country Club proved to be a formidable test over three rounds. Across 249 recorded rounds, the scoring average was 76.84 on the par-72 layout. The second round was the most punishing, with players averaging 79.34, more than seven strokes over par. Even the most manageable conditions came in the final round, when the field averaged 74, a number that still underscored the difficulty of the course.

16 of the 18 holes played over-par for the week. The only holes that yielded under-par averages were the par-5 1st and 11th. The toughest hole on the course was the par-4 16th, which played to a 4.51 average and produced just 14 birdies all week, alongside 125 pars, 83 bogeys and 27 double or triple bogeys.

Northwestern separated itself on the par-3s, leading the field with a 3.1 scoring average. The ‘Cats also tied for the fewest bogeys in the field and consistently avoided big numbers on a course that punished mistakes.

Individually, Lee led the way with a 4-under finish to claim her second victory of the season and third of her career. Only two players finished under-par for the tournament, with the runner-up at 1-under, highlighting Lee’s dominant performance. She excelled on the par-4s, playing them at a 3.97 average, 1-under cumulatively, which was the best mark in the field despite the demanding setup. Lee recorded 11 birdies, fourth most in the field, and posted just seven bogeys, the fewest of any competitor. Her senior season continues to build momentum.

Meng, Tai Lin and Yun each placed inside the top-25. Meng closed with a 1-over round and finished tied for 17th at 7-over. She was outstanding on the par-3s, playing them at 2-under cumulatively with a 2.83 average, best in the field.
