The WNBA announced on Wednesday that it’s expanding its schedule to 50 games beginning in the 2027 season. That’s up from 44 games, the length of the 2025 and 2026 schedules.

Season length was collectively bargained in the new CBA, which was ratified earlier this year. Fifty games is the maximum for 2027 and 2028 in the CBA, with 52 max in 2029. The agreement states the season can end no later than Nov. 21 in 2027 and Nov. 30 in 2028.

"Demand for the WNBA has never been greater, and expanding to a 50-game regular season reflects the extraordinary momentum we are seeing across the league," WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in a statement. "This move reflects our commitment to growing the game and creating more opportunities for fans to watch the best players in the world and experience the extraordinary talent and competition that define the WNBA.”

The WNBA is celebrating its 30th season this year, and has seen immense growth in size, investment and attention. Three expansion teams — the Golden State Valkyries, Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo — began play over the last two years, with three more teams — in Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia — set to enter the league from 2028 through 2030.
