It's not hard to understand why Washington Wizards fans were so upset about how the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery shook out.

Washington entered Monday's lottery draw tied for the best odds to win the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes at 14.0%. The team also had around a 52.1% shot at landing a top-four pick.

Instead, the Wizards ended up with the worst possible result; the team fell to sixth. There was only a 20% chance of that happening. Even worse was how the No. 1 overall pick went to the Dallas Mavericks, a team that had the 11th-best odds at just 1.8% to win.

NBA fans were quick to call the lottery rigged. The result felt all too convenient to appease the downtrodden Mavericks fan base after losing Luka Doncic. Perhaps there was an under-the-table deal to make it happen if Dallas sent the Slovenian star to the Los Angeles Lakers?

Wizards fans weren't above peddling some of the conspiracy theories that were floating around following the lottery.

The posts above were just a few of several reactions from Wizards supporters feeling burned by the smoothened lottery odds. Wizards fans had to endure an 18-64 season only to fall behind in the lottery to playoff-ready teams such as the Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, and Philadelphia 76ers.

The flattened odds were supposed to prevent tanking, which still happens to go on every year without a hitch. But the other side of it is that rebuilding teams such as the Wizards, Utah Jazz, and Charlotte Hornets have had increased chances of missing out on franchise-altering prospects like they did this year.

But for longtime Wizards fans, such disappointment feels like par for the course.
