For the first time in a decade, the Denver Broncos are approaching an NFL draft without any uncertainty about the team's ownership, general manager, head coach or quarterback situations.
“It’s really good to have those in place, obviously," GM George Paton said at the NFL combine in February. "Great ownership, great head coach and [a] really good quarterback that we think is going to be a franchise quarterback."
With stability at the club's most important positions, Paton said he feels the most prepared he's ever felt going into a draft.
“It’s valuable," Paton said of the team's continuity during the team's pre-draft press conference last week. "It’s going into our [Paton and coach Sean Payton's] third draft. We’ve had three years of free agency, two seasons and everything in between. We’re aligned in how we want to build this team. We both have a clear vision with what kinds of players and what types of people we want to bring into that building.
"Man, the collaboration in that building [between] all the departments with the ownership, Sean, myself, the scouts, the coaches, Beau [Lowery] and his team and Tony [Lazzaro] and the analytics group, it’s been outstanding. You just look back to our first draft, I feel so much more settled, and I feel like this is the most prepared I’ll be for a draft in large part because of the continuity we’ve had.”
The Broncos currently hold seven picks (but that could change with trades). The 2025 NFL draft will be held in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from April 24-26.
