MADISON – The Wisconsin men’s hockey team finished the opener of its series with Alaska Anchorage on Friday, Jan. 9, with a four-goal third period that led to a relatively easy finish to a game that was tougher than the score indicated.

In the series finale on Saturday, the Badgers experienced the opposite end of the spectrum.

UW needed to fight off furious push from the Seawolves before securing a 3-2 win in front of 9,578 at the Kohl Center.

Junior Quinn Finley scored twice for the Badgers, who are ranked No. 3 in the USCHO and USA Hockey poll. Finley's game-winner was a shorthanded goal set by seniors Christian Fitzgerald and Ben Dexheimer.

Finley recorded his third multi-goal game of the season. The shorthanded goal marked his second game-winner.

Dexheimer (two assists) had his fifth multi-point game of the season. Senior Freshman Finn Brink scored his fourth goal.

The Badgers (15-3-2) scored the first three goals during the first 30 minutes then missed chances during the final 10 minutes of the second period that kept the door open for an Anchorage comeback.

Goals by the Seawolves (3-14) at the 14:06 mark of the second period and the 3:27 mark of the third put the Badgers in a tight game.

Anchorage, which had seven shots during the first two periods, had 14 in the final 20 minutes. That included nine during the final 3 ½ minutes when UW blocked four of the chances to preserve the win.
