NASCAR will not start its 2026 season with a snow race, with the announcement of the postponement of The Clash at Bowman Gray being moved to Monday, following Saturday morning's snowstorm.

After surviving a full season with zero postponements across the three national touring series in 2025, NASCAR opens its 2026 campaign with a delay to The Clash, which was moved to Monday after heavy snowfall and harsh winter conditions on Saturday morning.

Before the postponement, the event had already been shortened, moving all activity to Sunday, cutting the Sport Mod and Modified companion races, and eliminating the Cup cars' heat races.

The winter storm warning for the Winston-Salem area predicts 3 to 7 inches of snow and is in effect until 7:00 AM Sunday morning.

NASCAR's original plan was to start prepping the track while snow was still falling on Saturday morning, bringing a fleet of vehicles to tackle the storm the night before.

After initially being optimistic about holding the race on Sunday, NASCAR's Executive Vice President Ben Kennedy changed his tune on Saturday morning after talks with local officials and the operations team.

"Nothing matters more than the safety of our fans, even when the weather doesn’t cooperate," Kennedy wrote on X. "We were ready to fight the weather and appreciate the collaboration with Winston-Salem and NC officials to make the best decision. Our operations team is hard at work for a Monday race!"

On top of track prep issues, transportation issues for drivers, teams and spectators, the cold weather on Saturday and Sunday would've been the coldest the current iteration of the NASCAR Cup car has ever raced in leaving unanswered questions about how the brakes would react.

As of Saturday morning, the adjusted Monday schedule is Parking opens at 9 AM ET with Gates Open at 10 AM, Practice and Qualifying will run at 11 AM and be aired on FS2. The Last Chance Qualifier for those that don't advance to the feature through qualifying will run at 4:30 PM, with the race at 6:00 PM; both will be aired. on FOX.
