Will Virat Kohli play against England in ODIs?
Virat Kohli's comeback trail is moving in the right direction, with the veteran batter showing solid signs of healing from the hamstring strain he picked up during the IPL 2026 final clash against Gujarat Titans.
The former skipper is now due for a fresh round of checks later this month, with a visit to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence pencilled in for June 22, where doctors will re-examine his progress and chart out the next steps on his path back to the national side.
The team management is keeping a close watch on the fitness of Kohli who remains central to India's one-day plans, especially with a packed schedule leading into next year's ODI World Cup in South Africa.
"Virat Kohli is progressing well following the right hamstring injury sustained in the IPL. He was assessed by the CoE team in London and handed over the programme to continue in the initial phase of rehab," a source was quoted.
"He will report to the CoE on 22nd June 2026 for re-evaluation, further planning and subsequent clearance."
Kohli's injury forced him out of the ongoing series against Afghanistan, with Yashasvi Jaiswal stepping in as his replacement.
There had been some early worry about whether he'd be fit in time for the England assignment that follows, but the latest signs suggest his rehabilitation remains on schedule.

Why Virat Kohli remains indispensable in ODIs
Even after walking away from both T20Is and Test cricket, Kohli continues to anchor India's 50-over batting line-up. His numbers make the case for themselves, having piled up 616 runs across his last seven ODI knocks at a staggering average beyond 123, with three hundreds to show for it.
He also had a strong IPL season behind the bat, racking up 675 runs and staying in the Orange Cap race for a long stretch before Vaibhav Sooryavanshi eventually pulled ahead.

His history in England adds further weight to his importance, having scored 1,349 runs across 33 ODIs there, complete with 12 half-centuries and a hundred.
Given how meticulously Kohli has managed his fitness throughout his career, his steady recovery hasn't come as much of a surprise. The squad for the England ODI series, scheduled across July 14 to 19, will be finalised soon, with matches lined up in Birmingham, Cardiff and at Lord's.
