India will look to get back on the winning track when they play England in the first of the five-match T20I series at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on Wednesday.
However, it remains to be seen if Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is handed his international debut on British shores, which will make him the youngest-ever Indian international debutant.
After a dream campaign in the IPL 2026 season, where he won the Orange Cap after scoring 776 runs, Sooryavanshi was being backed to earn his first senior cap in Belfast against Ireland.
However, the team management did not want to tinker with the top order and backed Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, the duo who had won the T20 World Cup 2026 after beating New Zealand in the final.
Iyer did not confirm whether Sooryavanshi will feature against the Three Lions and said: "Every individual playing in the team has performed. It's not just one individual who has done it. We need to provide everyone with opportunities and build security so that each individual has confidence going forward into the tournaments."
