The 2026 U.S. Senior Open at Scioto Country Club in Upper Arlington is set to feature many former major golf champions and veterans of the sport. Will Tiger Woods be in the field?
Woods became eligible to compete on the PGA Tour Champions, the PGA Tour's senior level, after turning 50 in December 2025. The U.S. Senior Open, the USGA's senior championship, has age requirements similar to the PGA Tour Champions; golfers must be 50 years of age and have a handicap of 2.4 or lower to qualify.
As a former U.S. Open Champion, Woods has a special exemption into the U.S. Senior Open field, which states that any player in their first year of eligibility for the tournament who has also won a U.S. Open may enter. Woods won the U.S. Open three times in his career (2000, 2002, 2008).
The last professional golf tournament Woods competed in was the Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Course in 2024. He missed the cut after shooting 14 over through two rounds.
Tiger Woods is not in the 156-player field for the Senior Open.
Woods registered for the 2026 U.S. Senior Open, according to a USGA spokesperson via Golfweek on March 26, but Woods was deciding whether to play at a later date. The U.S. Open field is currently at 155 of 156 players, with one more golfer earning the final spot from the DICK's Open on the PGA Tour Champions circuit from June 26-28.
Woods was involved in a car crash in Jupiter Island, Florida, on March 27, and was arrested on suspicion of DUI. His latest public appearance was at the PGA Tour's announcement of a new tour format on June 23 in Hartford, Connecticut, per Golfweek.
