The 126th U.S. Open is set to take place at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York, with first-round action starting June 18.

The 156-player field will be made up of players who meet certain exemptions, and this year there are 25 ways to get into the tournament, including spots for amateurs.

The winners of the 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Mid-Amateur Championships, the 2025 U.S. Amateur runner-up, and the 2026 NCAA Division I Men's Individual Golf Champions are among those who gain entry to the U.S. Open field to compete with the likes of defending champion J.J. Spaun and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

While there are numerous exemptions to the tournament, especially on the amateur side, one name that has sparked curiosity is Charlie Woods, the 17-year-old son of 15-time major winner Tiger Woods. The elder Woods has won this tournament three times, the last being in 2008 at Torrey Pines.

Woods did not qualify for this year's tournament.

Last month, he shot an even-par 72 at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida, missing the final qualifying stage by one stroke and finishing tied for 10th place.

He bounced back at the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier to earn a spot in that tournament, to be held at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, starting July 20.

Woods is currently ranked No. 14 on the Rolex American Junior Golf Association and earlier this year committed to playing golf at Florida State.
