With NFL free agency set to begin next week, the Denver Broncos have been frequently named as a team expected to "make a splash" at running back.

The Denver Post's Luca Evans doesn't seem to be buying it.

Evans named Travis Etienne as a "highly intriguing" potential fit for the Broncos, but he doesn't expect the team to pursue Tyler Allgeier, who would be a much cheaper alternative to Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker.

Evans wrote on Friday that he wouldn't be surprised if Denver re-signed J.K. Dobbins and added a "supplemental piece" instead of swinging big at running back. That would certainly contradict the expectation from national pundits. What would a supplemental piece look like? Evans mentioned Emanuel Wilson (who started his career with the Broncos) as an interesting name to monitor.

So, perhaps the running back splash buzz was overblown. We'll find out next week.
