MIAMI, Fla. – After three full days of NBA free agency, the league has shaken, especially in the Eastern Conference. The reported blockbuster trade of former Finals MVP Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers left the basketball world in complete awe. However, it might not be the biggest move this summer when it’s all set and done.

LeBron James remains a free agent – weighing all options for the next step. Although one thing is certain about the 41-year-old’s future: he will not return to the Los Angeles Lakers. Several teams are lining up for James’ services, including a potential reunion with the Heat, Team President Pat Riley, and coach Erik Spoelstra.

Early into the offseason, a couple of notable All-Stars returned to organizations they once played for. Former two-time Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard was traded to the Toronto Raptors after seven years with the Los Angeles Clippers. The last time the 35-year-old played for “The Six,” the organization claimed its first NBA Championship in 2019.

Shortly after, two-time All-Star Nikola Vucevic reunited with the Orlando Magic – signing a one-year, $3.9 million contract. Following a short Boston Celtics stint and six years with the Chicago Bulls, the 35-year-old returns to where it mostly began. Vucevic was originally drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2011, but was traded after a rookie campaign.

The Switzerland native spent nine years with the Magic before getting shipped to the “Windy City” at the 2021 deadline. Vucevic sits at the top of several franchise records, including games played (fourth - 591), field goals made (first - 4,490), total points (third - 10,423), total rebounds (second - 6,381), assists (eighth - 1,668), and triple-doubles (tied-third - three).

James has the opportunity to follow the trend with the Heat. Although Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are long gone from the league, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo await him. James’ tenure with the Heat is arguably the most successful.

In four years – 2010 to 2014 – it consisted of four NBA Finals appearances, two Larry O’Brien trophies, two regular-season MVPs, four All-Stars, four All-NBA First Team, and four All-Defensive honors. Among the franchise records, James sits fifth in field goals made (2,911), sixth in assists (1,980), 10th in steals (489), and second in triple-doubles (nine).

Although the league has drastically changed since the all-time leading scorer last wore a Heat jersey, the championship success could still be obtained. There’s no indication as to how close James is to making a decision, but it remains under a microscopic watch in the meantime.
