LAWRENCE — As expected, Kansas basketball’s Darryn Peterson was one of the top selections of the 2026 NBA Draft on June 23.

Peterson, a freshman guard for the Jayhawks this past season, went No. 2 overall in the first round to Utah. Despite going through various health issues during his lone year with KU, he was still able to enjoy a positive draft night.

And looking ahead to the 2027 NBA Draft, it’s likely Kansas will have another player be considered among the top prospects.

Joining KU for this upcoming season is freshman guard Tyran Stokes, the 247Sports No. 1 overall recruit for the class of 2026. His arrival significantly increased the Jayhawks’ chances of enjoying a successful 2026-27 season.

Here are a few early NBA mock draft projections, released recently, for what could take place in 2027.

NBA mock draft projections for Kansas basketball’s Tyran Stokes

ESPN

This projection places Stokes at No. 1 overall in the first round. It’s a nod to the potential he has as a talent. It’s just a matter of if he takes advantage of the chance he has this season to solidify his place in this draft class.

CBS Sports

This projection would also place Stokes at No. 1 overall in the first round. Again, in a draft class that has a lot of potential for movement, there’ll be a need to earn that spot. But with Stokes set to lead the way for KU as it looks for Big 12 Conference and national success, he’ll have every opportunity to prove he’s worthy of it.

The Athletic

This projection places Stokes at No. 1 overall in the first round, too. His size, at 6-foot-7 and 230 pounds, as well as his versatility makes him someone that would be valuable at the next level. Regardless of if he ends up as a No. 1 pick or not, odds are the McDonald’s All-American won’t have to wait long to hear his name called.
