Sunday's World Cup final between Argentina and Spain is expected to be a highly-rated affair when FOX broadcasts the match, but a growing concern is whether the weather and skies will cooperate for the 3 p.m. ET kickoff on July 19.
This week, heavy smoke from wildfires in Canada has covered the skies on the East Coast, including in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where the final match will be played.
According to the National Weather Service, skies should be mostly clear for most of Sunday.
"Smoke still lingers today (Friday), especially towards the south, but it should be less intense than yesterday in our region. The smoke may thicken again in the overnight into Saturday morning," the NWS said on social media.
The forecast for the weekend calls for thunderstorms in the tri-state area on Saturday afternoon and evening, which could produce flash flooding.
Those storms should be long gone by Sunday, with temperatures reaching the mid-80's by match time.
