The Chargers must upgrade the offensive line ahead of the 2026 season. A wild statistic proves the Bolts must do so.
Every NFL team's most-often used offensive line combination last season, and the overall play percentage of that group, was listed for the 2025 season. The Chargers ranked last with their most-used combo of Austin Deculus, Zion Johnson, Bradley Bozeman, Mekhi Becton, and Bobby Hart, which posted just 181 plays together.
The group's play percentage was a mind-boggling 16.53%.
The Chargers are aware of their porous offensive line last season and plan on prioritizing the necessary upgrades to the unit this offseason.
General manager Joe Hortiz revealed the front office is specifically looking to upgrade the unit, which ranked 32nd in PFF's run-blocking grade and 31st in the league in PFF pass-blocking grade.
"Yeah, we're looking at all positions," Hortiz said. "Definitely want to sure up the offensive line, we've got some holes there, Bradley Bozeman retired, and we got some free agents on the other line.
"Definitely have to add to it," Hortiz added. "Excited about the week, excited to be with coach again and adding Mike it's awesome."
The Chargers have a top quarterback in the NFL in Justin Herbert, but his performance was hampered last season by the offensive line's struggles. He was sacked 41 times last season.
The team is already making adjustments as the Chargers released Becton, who ranked 61st out of 62 guards in run block win rate (63.4 percent) and 46th in pass block win rate (91.2 percent).
Now, the Chargers enter free agency with nearly $100 million in cap space to revamp the group.
