Worked at a DSL company years ago but this out of my ballpark now. I upgraded my Xfinity to 1gig and I am in fact getting that at the modem, and I can almost 1 gig on my phone with my VPN on. On my laptop not even close. So what's the gating factor is it my wireless card on my laptop? It says I have a mediatek wifi6 wireless card. If I bought an external USB wifi adapter would it help? The speed below is actually fast I'm often in the mid 200's when I do this test. This is with my antivirus and VPN on, if I turn that off I get close to 600 so I think my wifi card simply can't go above that?

Are you able to get into the Xfinity router? You should first check the wifi channel, DNS settings (DNS server) etc. Are you using 2.4Ghz or 5G? If it is the 2.4, it's top speed is like 575Mbps or so. You need to be on 5G to get the max that card can go. (it can go over a 1Gb)

How close are you to the router? You may want to try adjusting its location, etc.

5 feet from the router.

I messed around with 2.4 and 5 before. But I just discovered the preferred band setting after reading your post and switched it from no preference to prefer 5.0 so that increased my speed from about 360 to 575.

The Xfinity app has access to the router it insists 5G is enabled and it says I'm getting 116% of my paid speed. My phone gets over 1 GB so I'm pretty sure the issue is the card.

I googled it and find a bunch of complaints about the card itself.

Thanks it appears changing that preferred band setting got me more speed.

Pretty easy to change out the WiFi card. Most of the ones bundled with laptops suck.
This. I can't tell you how many times I have swapped out a laptop nic and have seen massive improvement in stability of the signal and speed.

I could do that but my vision isn't what it used to be I'm a bit leery about removing the bottom cover(doesn't have any small covers I have to take off the whole bottom) to change out a card. I used to change out memory regularly at work back at AOsense but that was almost 10 years ago my vision sucks now.

You should be fine. Just remember to unplug it, turn it off and then press the power button to discharge. The way most laptops are configured it should be a pretty simple swap. Youtube also has some vides sometimes specific to a product line if you need that.
