These days, Iowa basketball star Alvaro Folgueiras has become a key cog in the Hawkeyes' Cinderella run during the men's basketball tournament.
But amid his rise to prominence, Folgueiras couldn't enjoy his success with one of the most important people in his life — his mother.
After the Hawkeyes' star nailed the game-winning shot against top-seeded, reigning champion Florida last weekend, Folgueiras told an emotional story about how his mom hadn't been able to witness him play live ... until now. He was seen embracing his mother courtside after the big-time second-round win for Iowa. For those of you wondering why Folgueiras's mom hasn't been able to watch him play, well, she lives in Spain, thousands of miles away. Folgueiras came to the United States to further his basketball career, but his mother couldn't come with him.
Under such circumstances, it's not like she can attend every game he plays. It doesn't make logistical sense.
What a way for her to see her son's dream realized on one of the biggest stages in basketball.
Folgueiras's family story added a wonderful cherry on top to one of the already better storylines in this year's men's March Madness. We'll see how it continues to unfold against Nebraska on Thursday night.

Alvaro Folgueiras says his mom wasn't able to watch him play at Iowa for the last two years.
Tonight, he hit the game winning shot to upset the defending National Champions with her in attendance. What a moment. pic.twitter.com/kISa50ccnW
