The Minnesota Twins lost two experienced pitchers from their organization on Wednesday.
Matt Bowman and John Brebbia are both free agents.
According to The Athletic's Dan Hayes, both right-handed relief pitchers exercised opt-outs they had in their contracts.
Essentially, veterans signed to minor league deals often have a date on which they can head to free agency if they haven't been promoted to the MLB roster.
That's what both Bowman and Brebbia have done.

Why did the Twins let Bowman and Brebbia leave?
The Twins simply didn't have room on their MLB roster for either of these guys.
Bowman and Brebbia have plenty of MLB experience, but they haven't been key contributors in a while.
There's a reason they were only with the Twins on minor league contracts in the first place. No one wanted them for more than that.
Bowman should draw quick interest. He has a 1.69 ERA with 25 strikeouts in 21.1 innings at Triple-A St. Paul this season.
Brebbia has enough experience that someone will probably pick him up, too.
They'll be taking their next steps in the major leagues for someone other than the Twins, though.
