The Carolina Panthers could really use Taysom Hill.

This is just an idea, pure speculation as the New Orleans Saints' free agent lingers on the open market, potentially pondering retirement but also possibly looking for a new NFL home.

It's not clear what Hill wants to do with his future, and he may be in no rush, but he'd fill a major need for the Panthers.

Bryce Young, the Panthers' starting QB, has one obvious flaw: He can't do anything in the short-yardage run game.

The Panthers don't use the tush push, for example, because Young is much too small for it.

Young can scramble in space, but he isn't going to line up in shotgun or under center and power forward for a few yards.

Guess who can do that? Hill.

Now, it's worth noting that the Panthers signed Georgia Tech QB Haynes King as an undrafted free agent, and maybe he can fill that role.

Hill is much more proven at the NFL level, though.

In his career, he has run for 2,551 yards, received 1,034 yards and thrown for 2,426 yards. He's the first player in the Super Bowl era to clear 1,000 in all three.

In 2025, Hill ran for 114 yards and a touchdown, caught 11 passes for 91 yards and completed 2-of-6 passes for 57 yards and a TD.

Sure, Hill turns 36 in August, and there's no precedent for how a multi-threat player like him will age.

But he'd fit the Panthers' need, and it'd be a chance to show the Saints what he can still do from within their own division.

It's certainly worth a call for Carolina.
