Why the Hawks’ Nest at Lumen Field just got a major upgrade

When the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks return to Lumen Field next season, there will be some noticeable changes to their home stadium.

Since its inception in 2002, the north end zone has been home to the ‘Hawks’ Nest’ and its 3,000 bleacher seats. For those a little less familiar with the stadium, take a look at this photo:

The bleacher seat days are now over. Behold the new-look Hawks’ Nest that will be occupied by the 12s starting later this summer.

From bleachers to traditional seats in the cool shape of the Seahawks logo. I know we’ve had some people in our comments section and in The Feed talking about how much more expensive their Hawks’ Nest season tickets got, and perhaps this is part of the reason.

But this stadium upgrade coincides with Seattle serving as host for several group stage and knockout round matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. As noted last year, FIFA forbids bleacher seats for its World Cup matches, so this was one of the major changes Lumen Field had to make in order to be a host stadium.

When the World Cup comes to town in June, fans will not only experience a Lumen Field with a changed Hawks’ Nest, but they’ll also see a natural grass surface instead of the usual artificial turf. However, only the seating is a permanent change; the Seahawks will not be playing on a natural grass surface no matter how much the players evidently dislike the surface.
