The Golden State Warriors could have made a move to acquire Jaylen Brown but chose not to do so. An NBA insider recently revealed the reason.
Despite his stellar individual performance in the 2025-26 NBA season, Jaylen Brown was traded by the Boston Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Brown was Finals MVP in 2024, but was constantly in trade rumors despite all his success in Boston. The fact that he was sent to the rival Sixers is surprising, to say the least.
However, before that move, the Golden State Warriors had been credited with considering a deal to acquire the two-way star. However, they chose not to and now we may know why.

Warriors didn’t think Jaylen Brown was the ‘right player’ for the post-Curry era
Golden State find themselves in an odd spot. They want to compete with Stephen Curry in his last few seasons, but also have to plan for a future after their franchise GOAT.
The team are in limbo at the moment. They haven’t managed to put together a competitive roster, and they also lack any meaningful future assets. However, they reportedly still didn’t want Brown.
“The Warriors had an opportunity to trade for the former Celtic before the deadline in February,” Logan Murdock wrote for The Ringer.
“But they couldn’t build an organizational consensus that Brown would be the right player to carry the Warriors beyond the Curry era.”
These reports are bound to put a chip on Brown’s shoulder moving forward, if he didn’t already have one. As for the Warriors, they can certainly do worse than if they had managed to secure his services.
