Why Stephen Curry isn't playing vs. LeBron James and the Lakers originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
After more than two months out with runner's knee, Stephen Curry this week made his return with a 29-point effort in a home loss to the Houston Rockets.
But the Golden State Warriors superstar will miss Thursday night's late-season showdown against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers as he continues to manage his injury.
Curry out on front end of a back-to-back
Two games after returning from a 27-game absence, Curry will sit on Thursday night when the Warriors host the Lakers at Chase Center in a 10 p.m. ET tip-off.

The nationally-televised game will air on Prime Video -- and it means that, due to their own respective injuries this season, Curry and James will not face one another in 2025-26, barring an unlikely meeting in the NBA playoffs.
Steph Curry is now out tonight vs the Lakers on the front side of a back-to-back. Warriors are in Sacramento tomorrow night. That means zero Curry against LeBron James games this season.

The Warriors have opted to rest Curry ahead of the season's final back-to-back. Golden State visits another in-state rival, the Sacramento Kings, on Friday. Even though the Warriors are locked into the 10-seed in the Western Conference, they would prefer for the two-time MVP to play a more winnable game on Friday instead.
Curry has played 26 and 25 minutes respectively since his return from the knee injury. The Warriors' final regular-season game is Sunday in Los Angeles against the Clippers, whom Golden State could play next week in the Play-In Tournament.
