Why Spencer Jones' 2nd promotion to Yankees is different originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Spencer Jones is coming back to the major leagues.
The New York Yankees didn't have a choice after placing Aaron Judge on the Injured List, and they're swapping in one 6-foot-7 slugger for another.
It'll be Jones' second time at the MLB level this season. His first foray wasn't great -- a 4-for-24 line (.167) with 12 strikeouts.
The Yankees need this time to be different for Jones, and it can be.

Why Spencer Jones can be better this time
There is an element, even for the best prospects, of adjustment.
Mike Trout struggled in his first taste of the big leagues. When he came back the next season, he was an immediate star.
That's not to say Jones will be Trout, but he now knows what to expect. Anything that might've surprised him in his first go-around shouldn't surprise him as much now.
And even if it feels like it shouldn't, that legitimately matters.
Baseball is such a mental game that anything throwing off a player's rhythm or equilibrium can harm their overall performance.
Jones, who had a .919 OPS at Triple-A in between these MLB stints, is still swinging the bat well and still has some of the best raw power in baseball.
Now that he's comfortable, this can be a better stint in the big leagues than his prior one.
